Vegetable Chow Mein

I was going to call this dish “Vegetable Lo Mein,” but after some research I found out that the “lo mein” we are usually served in the U.S. doesn’t at all resemble lo mein in China. Apparently, lo mein is not stir-fried at all. Traditionally, it is a variation of wonton noodle soup, with the soup on the side. That westernized Chinese take-out that you’re used to is most likely the greasy cousin of lo mein called chow mein.

Cinnamon Raisin Baguette

Our weekly tradition of bread-making has continued. This week we made a cinnamon raisin baguette. I only made one this time to prevent me from eating a whole loaf ten minutes after it came out of the oven (which is hard to resist!).

This one might have a future as some amazing French toast this coming weekend.

Homemade Baguettes

We just got a brand new KitchenAid stand mixer for Christmas and it comes with a dough hook, so we decided to make bread.

I used a recipe from the book Bread and I think I did a pretty good job for my first attempt in the world of bread-making. I think I might make this a Sunday tradition.

I’ve already eaten half a loaf with some homemade rosemary-garlic olive oil that we made for the holidays. Yum!
